When we look at psychology, one of the key components is actually your state. But how do you actually manage your state?
For me, the first step I guess is self-awareness. First I have to know what state I'm in, and then determine if I'm in the best state for trading. Many times, I just walk away and not trade for long periods because of stress at work. Trading when you are still fuming over a scolding by my boss isn't the best thing to do.
So there are times to just walk away.... and there are times to adjust my state. Sometimes I just have to adjust my breathing, or think of the last time that I was "on-form" so to speak. But really, sometimes its not easy to get back "on-form" for trading after having stopped for a few weeks, esp if I haven't even been keeping up with the markets and news. So I'll have to start off slowly, manage the trades and build up my confidence all over again.
Its a consistent process of building up each time actually, and I seldom trade feel fully confident after having stopped for awhile.
What's your experience with managing your own psychology/state?
